Glen Scotia
launch new Oloroso sherry finished 18
year old expression.
The
Glen Scotia distillery in Campbeltown
has released a new Glen Scotia 18 year
old expression.
The new whisky was matured for 17 years
in American oak casks, before being
married together and finished in Oloroso
sherry casks for 12 months before
bottling.
Bottled at 46% ABV with no added
colouring and non-chill filtered the
distillery say the new whisky "embodies
the signature aromas of Campbeltown,
with hints of vanilla oak interwoven
with subtle notes of sea spray and spicy
aromatic fruits".
Glen Scotia Master Blender, Michael
Henry commented on the new 18 year old
saying; "Glen Scotia distillery is one
of only three surviving Campbeltown
Scotch whisky distilleries and much of
the original design has remained the
same over that time, with the stillroom,
dunnage warehouse and fermenters all
dating back to the 19th century.
"Glen Scotia 18 Year Old is bottled at
46% ABV, natural colour and is non-chill
filtered ensuring the whisky’s rich
smooth taste and distinctive flavours
are preserved. On nose you will detect
the scent of sweet toffee, perfumed
floral notes and an air of crisp
saltiness. On the palate, it imparts
notes of rich deep vanilla fruit
flavours, with mild hints of apricot,
pineapple and plump sultana. The finish
is long and dry, with gentle warming
spice. A true taste of Glen Scotia and
Campbeltown."
It is worth noting that this is a new
expression and not a repackaged version
of the Glen
Scotia 18 year old launched in 2013
which was presented in the garish blue
packaging adorned by a Highland cow. From what I can make out the
difference between the two is that the
new Glen Scotia 18 expression was
finished in Oloroso sherry casks for 12
months before bottling which has
hopefully added a good sherried dimension.
The Glen Scotia 18 year old has a RRP of
£85 here in the UK and will also be
available in global markets, including
Taiwan, Germany, Belgium and Poland, it
will also be available from
specialist online whisky shops such as
