Two decades
in the making, definitive Johnnie Walker
Collection comes to auction.
More than 3,200 bottles, miniatures and
pieces of memorabilia charting the
history of Johnnie Walker are set to go
under the hammer this September in what
is being described as the largest and
most comprehensive collection of the
world’s No. 1 Scotch whisky brand ever
offered at auction.
The landmark sale, hosted by Whisky
Auctioneer from 11–21 September, will
give collectors and followers of the
iconic Striding Man the opportunity to
explore more than a century of Johnnie
Walker history through an extraordinary
archive assembled by a single collector
over two decades.
At the heart of the sale is the
collection of Frans Op den Kamp, whose
fascination with Johnnie Walker began in
1999 when he purchased a $130 bottle of
Blue Label while returning home from a
business trip to New York. What started
with a single bottle developed into a
20-year pursuit that saw him build an
encyclopaedic knowledge of the brand,
becoming a trusted source for fellow
collectors and industry figures seeking
help to date, value and authenticate
rare Johnnie Walker bottlings.
Frans Op den Kamp, collector and
consignor, commented: "Johnnie Walker has been a constant
companion throughout my collecting
journey. What began with a bottle of
Blue Label bought in 1999 grew into more
than two decades of learning and
travelling from discovering rare
market-specific bottlings to bringing
together the full story of Johnnie
Walker across a century.
"Parting with the collection is
certainly not easy, but I feel I have
achieved what I set out to do. I hope
these bottles find their way to
collectors who discover something that
resonates with them, whether that’s a
particular whisky, a moment in Johnnie
Walker’s history or simply the thrill of
the hunt. Most of all, I hope it
inspires a renewed appreciation for the
art of blending and the story of Scotch
whisky."
The collection spans more than 100 years
of Johnnie Walker history, tracing the
evolution of the brand from early
20th-century Old Highland Whisky
bottlings to highly sought-after
contemporary limited editions and some
of its rarest modern releases.
In total, the archive comprises more
than 1,600 full-size bottles, over 600
miniatures and upwards of 1,000 original
pieces of advertising and memorabilia,
creating a remarkable visual and
physical record of Johnnie Walker’s
development throughout the 20th and into
the 21st century.
Among the historic highlights are
pre-1968 corked examples of Black Label,
Red Label and Swing, alongside rare
single malt bottlings from Cardhu,
Talisker and Mortlach that explicitly
reference John Walker on their original
labels.
These early releases sit alongside some
of the brand’s most exclusive modern
expressions, including the 1805
Celebration Blend, created to mark the
200th anniversary of John Walker’s
birth. Just 200 bottles were gifted to
individuals recognised for "significant
contributions to modern life". Also
featured is the ultra-exclusive
Signature Blend by Formula One world
champion Jenson Button, which was
limited to just 25 bottles and sold by
private invitation in Shanghai.
Originally consigned from California,
the collection has now been transported
to Scotland, where Whisky Auctioneer's
team is cataloguing, photographing and
preparing the vast archive for sale to
its global audience of collectors.
The auction follows Whisky Auctioneer’s
previous experience handling major
private collections from around the
world, including The Perfect Collection,
consigned from Colorado, which became
the most valuable single-owner whisky
collection ever offered at auction at
the time.

Beyond the whisky itself, the sale
includes an extensive archive of more
than 1,000 pieces of historic
advertising and memorabilia dating from
the early 1900s to the present day.
Together, these objects provide a
fascinating insight into the development
of one of the world’s most recognisable
whisky brands, documenting the evolution
of the Striding Man and Johnnie Walker’s
visual identity across different markets
throughout the 20th century.
