Review of the Jura Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle 2022 Distillery exclusive edition, a 14 year single sherry butt matured Jura single malt released to mark Jura distillery's Fèis Ìle festival 2022 day.

Jura Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle 2022 Edition

This year Jura distillery marked its Fèis Ìle festival day with the release of specially selected single cask bottling - the Jura Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle 2022 Edition, Cask No. 1892.

The Jura Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle 2022 Edition is a 14 Year Old single malt, single cask bottling which was matured in a specially hand-selected Sherry butt from Jerez in Southern Spain, distilled and laid down to mature on 12th September 2007 and bottled just ahead of the Fèis Ìle festival on the 13th May 2022. It is a limited edition release of just 700 bottles which have been hand-filled, wax sealed and labelled on the Isle of Jura at what should be a very tasty cask strength of 57.2% ABV.

The 700 bottles were initially available to purchase exclusively from the distillery visitor centre on Jura  distillery's Fèis Ìle festival day, 3rd of June, and the remaining allocation of bottles were then made available for pre-sale to select international markets via the Jura Whisky website, with an RRP of £120, all are sold out now.

You will also find the current Jura core range available from specialist online whisky retailers such as The Whisky Exchange, The Whisky Shop and Master of Malt

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: Some sherry soaked raisin, a little sugared apricot jam and orange peel. Hiding behind the fruit is a touch of lightly salted vanilla toffee and lovely sweet spice.

Taste: A delicious mix of luscious sugar sweet sherried malt and slightly bitter dark chocolate and toffee with a wee salty edge all infused with some lovely gentle Jura peat smoke leads the charge, quickly followed by some lovely oak spice and dark roasted coffee, and more sugars which keeps the bitter sweet balance with the coffee.

Finish: The oak spice, sugared sherry and gentle Jura peat all want to have the last word making for a lovely long finish. Some spiced pear makes a late appearance.

Comment: Way more sherried on the palate than the nose let on, and in a very good way. It is not too obvious it is a Jura on the nose but you are in no doubt that it is a Jura when you taste it, the taste is packed with gentle but firm Jura DNA peat which is boosted by a lovely big sherry influence. A cracking sherried Jura and a worthy selection for the Feis Ile bottling, its age and bottling strength simply add to and extend the flavour pleasure. I hope you managed to get hold of a bottle.

SMW Score 91/100
