Review of the
Jura Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle Edition
2019 release which I tasted alongside
the latest Jura Fèis Ìle 2019 release.
The
Jura Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle Edition
2019 is a heavily peated expression
which was bottled for the Islay Festival
back in 2019.
This Jura single cask, single malt was
distilled on the 27th March 2002,
matured for 17 years in a refill sherry
butt then bottled in May 2019 specially
for the Islay Festival that year.
Non chill filtered, naturally coloured
and bottled at 56.5% ABV, I recently got
the chance to taste it during the
virtual launch
tasting of the
Jura Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle Edition
2021
which given that this years bottling had
matured in the same type of cask and was
only around one year older but was
unpeated I thought that this heavily
peated Jura Distillery Cask Fèis
Ìle 2019 release
made an interesting comparison.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A lovely enticing clean, fresh
nose, bristling with sweet peat smoke,
creamy vanilla toffee, slightly candied
orange zest and some gentle oak spices.
Taste:
Delicious sugar charged vanilla toffee
infused peat fills every corner of the
mouth, behind it is the orange from the
nose which has been joined by some lemon
and grapefruit, some lovely vibrant oak
spices add to the pleasure.
Finish:
The sugar charged peat lingers long into
the finish and develops a more treacle
toffee'd edge, slightly drying oak
spices are more prominent and continue
to linger for an age.
Comment:
I have said it before, Jura simply gets
better with age and Jura and peat for me
has always made the best bedfellows and
this is a stunning big peated example of
that and an interesting comparison to
the latest
unpeated
Jura Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle Edition
2021 release. Like all these Jura
Fèis Ìle releases the bottling strength
simply boosts the tasting pleasure.

Jura Distillery Cask Fèis Ìle Edition 2021 Review
|
(Review added 11th June 2021)
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Bright barley sugars, creamy sweet vanilla fudge,
a slight touch of fresh pear, coconut,
touch of oak spice, some distant almond.
Taste:
Big barley sugar candy sweetness,
vanilla, zesty oranges and lemon,
pineapple, deliciously vibrant oak
spices
Finish:
A lovely long refreshing finish, more
vanilla and candied fruit, the oak spice
comes more to the fore and simply
balances perfectly with the sweet
candied fruit. A late wee touch of
liquorice.
Comment:
To put it simply Jura has selected a
stunning whisky for the Fèis Ìle Edition
2021 edition, the sugars, fruit and oak
along with the flavoursome bottling
strength of 57.1% ABV make this a
delicious dram, I hope you managed to
get hold of a bottle.
