Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2015

23rd March 2015
Kilchoman release the 2015 expression of there limited edition sherried Loch Gorm

The Kilchoman distillery which is now in its 10th anniversary year (how time fly's) have today released their first new bottling of the year the limited edition Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2015.

Named after a famously peaty loch overlooked by the distillery, Loch Gorm releases are traditionally matured in ex Oloroso sherry butts and this years release is no exception. Where the 2015 version differs from the previous year is the use of sherry hogsheads to mature a portion of the whisky rather than just sherry butts. This edition will also be marginally older than the five year old 2014 version, it being bottled from casks filled in both 2009 and 2010.

Kilchoman founder Anthony Wills commented: "As well as this year’s release being slightly older, we decided to increase the ratio of single malt matured in smaller sherry hogsheads versus that matured in larger sherry butts. This increases the influence from the sherry casks and gives the whisky a striking intensity and richness. That said, the whisky retains the balance and complexity Kilchoman releases are well-known for."

The Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2015 was released today, it was bottled at 46% ABV Non Chill Filtered, no added colouring and will be available from whisky specialist shops such as  The Whisky Exchange with an RRP of £63.00.

Kilchoman Loch Gorm Tasting Notes

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

*Note these notes are for the Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2013 release

Colour: A deep natural copper colour from the sherry casks, no fake tans here.

Nose: Lovely enticing light medicinal peat smoke, some toffee and attractive rich grape and touch of spice.

Taste: Initially mild burnt medicinal earthy peat smoke coated in a sweet rich sherry fruitiness then the youthful oaky spiciness. Still a bit of feinty character in there.

Finish: A long finish. Mild peat smoke and mildly drying sweet sherry slowly fading leaving a lovely lingering youthful oaky spiciness.

SMW Score 87/100
