Kilchoman
brings back Sanaig Cask Strength for
2026.

Kilchoman
Distillery has unveiled the 2026 edition
of Sanaig Cask Strength, returning with
an cask strength of 57.5% ABV.
Delivering the full intensity of its
sherry-led maturation, this powerful
release is aimed at whisky drinkers who
enjoy bold, richly flavoured drams.
Based on the recipe behind Kilchoman's
popular core-range Sanaig, which is
bottled at 46% ABV, the Cask Strength
edition retains the same emphasis on
sherry cask maturation but skips the
addition of water to reduce its alcohol
strength. Bottled at its natural cask
strength, the 2026 release offers a more
concentrated expression of Sanaig's
distinctive character.
The whisky is a combination of Oloroso
sherry hogshead finished and fully
matured Oloroso casks. Sourced directly
from Bodega José Miguel Martín in Jerez,
Spain, these sherry casks bring depth
and richness to the Islay single malt,
complementing Kilchoman’s characteristic
smoky spirit.
At 57.5% ABV, whisky drinkers can expect
an intense combination of rich dark
fruits, deep sherry influences and
mouth-watering barbecue smoke, creating
a robust dram that showcases the impact
of sherry maturation alongside the
distillery’s signature peat smoke.
Anthony Wills, founder of Kilchoman
Distillery, commented: "Cask strength
whiskies have a magic about them. They
have an ability to surprise you, to
deliver flavour in a way which is
entirely unexpected."
I haven't had the chance to taste this
one yet but if the Sanaig Cask Strength
2024 release is anything to go by this
should be another outstanding dram,
so if you are looking for a quality
sherried, peaty dram to warm you up over
the cold winter months then this is one
worth considering.
