The Macallan Gold Review
With
the darker nights closing in and
Christmas fast approaching there are
bound to be numerous offers on Scotch single malt whiskies available in the big High Street supermarkets
so I thought I would make a few suggestions
during the run up to Christmas for those gift buyers looking for
a special Scotch malt whisky Christmas
gift.
You cant get anymore Christmassy than a
sherried whisky and here we have the
100% Sherry Cask Matured, 100% Natural
Colour, Macallan Gold which is the
entry level whisky in the Macallan 1824
Series,
a series of single malt Scotch whiskies
where each whisky takes its name from
the colour of whisky, bottled at 40% ABV.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Colour:
Deep gold.
Nose: Finely balanced honey,
vanilla, orange and raisins.
Taste: Lightly sweet, light
creamy vanilla, chocolate, followed by
raisins, orange and lemon peel, some
light oak spice, cinnamon.
Finish: Bitter sweet, a touch of
cinnamon, a mild slowly drying sherried
oakiness.
Comment:
A nice clean lightly
sherried Macallan. This is the entry
level whisky in the Macallan 1824
series and a very nicely balanced
expression of the Macallan. I would
imagine this is a vatting of mainly
refill sherry cask matured whisky with a
drop of first fill sherry cask whisky in
there also.
A lovely delicately sherried easy to
drink Macallan that would make an ideal
Christmas gift for any whisky drinker no
matter what there taste in whisky is.
It does not carry an age statement but
don't let that put you off, I can’t say I
found the Macallan Gold youthful at all, The
Macallan has done a good job of putting
this whisky together. If you are
looking for a more classic big bold
sherried Macallan I suggest looking at
the other Macallan's in the 1824 Series
but if you fancy a lighter sherried
Macallan then this is the one.
