The
GlenAllachie has unveiled the third
annual release of its big peated single
malt, Meikle Tòir The Turbo 2025
Edition.
Independent
Scotch whisky producer The GlenAllachie
Distillers Company has unveiled the
Meikle Tòir Turbo 2025 Edition, the
third release in its celebrated annual
small-batch heavily peated series.
Building on the success of the previous
sell-out Turbo bottling's, this year’s
edition, which has been bottled at 50%
ABV and has a UK RRP £55.99, is set to
be the most eagerly awaited yet.
Distilled using mainland peat from St.
Fergus, the whisky carries the hallmark
oaky, sweet smoky style, further
enriched by five years of maturation in
virgin oak casks and Oloroso sherry
hogsheads.
Under the direction of Master Distiller
Billy Walker, the Speyside distillery
devotes around six weeks each year to
peated production, yielding just 100,000
Litres of Alcohol (LOA)—around 10% of
its total output. The result is Meikle
Tòir, a sweet-smoked malt defined by the
distillery’s exacting methods, including
an extended 160-hour fermentation that
adds notable depth and complexity.
The name "Turbo" highlights the whisky’s
bold smoky intensity: 72 PPM, compared
with 35 PPM in the core Meikle Tòir
range. This heightened phenolic
character is achieved by capturing the
spirit cut at its peak—the heart of the
heart of the distillate.
For the 2025 release, Walker’s renowned
cask selection and maturation expertise
bring balance and finesse to the
whisky’s power. They say to expect
aromas of manuka honey, toasted caramel
and smoked cedarwood, unfolding into
flavours of heather honey, roasted
hazelnuts, mocha and smouldering oak,
before a long finish of dark chocolate
and plum jam.
Commenting on the release, Billy Walker
said: "Meikle Tòir has been met with
incredible enthusiasm, with every Turbo
release to date selling out at
remarkable speed. What sets Turbo apart
is the way we push peat to its maximum
while still allowing the spirit’s
signature heather honey character to
shine through.
"This balance of boldness and finesse
makes Turbo truly special. It’s an
exceptionally limited release, and for
those lucky enough to secure a bottle,
it represents a rare chance to
experience our peated whisky at full
force."
Meikle Tòir was the first spirit crafted
under Billy Walker’s stewardship
following his acquisition of The
GlenAllachie distillery in 2017. From
the outset, he refined production to
create a bolder, peat-driven new make,
designed to thrive through maturation.
All core Meikle Tòir whiskies are
released with a five-year age statement,
remain non-chill filtered, and are
bottled with natural colour. Their
packaging—adorned with bespoke
illustrations by Scottish artist Iain
McIntosh—is produced entirely by
UK-based suppliers, reflecting a
commitment to reducing environmental
impact.
The Turbo 2025 Edition arrives on the
heels of July’s debut Meikle Tòir single
cask releases: an online-exclusive
6-year-old Oloroso Sherry Hogshead,
which sold out within 24 hours, and a
distillery-exclusive 7-year-old Pedro
Ximénez Sherry Hogshead, of which only
limited bottles remain.
Meikle Tòir’s core range includes
three other products:
Meikle Tòir The Original 5 Year Old,
Meikle Tòir The Sherry One 5 Year Old,
and The
Meikle Tòir The Chinquapin One 5 Year
Old.
Meikle Tòir Turbo 2025 Edition will be
rolled out over the coming weeks and
will soon be available from
specialist online whisky shopssuch as
