Consortium of Cards series: Old
Particular The Crackerjack Port Dundas
28 Year Old .

bottler Douglas Laing & Co has unveiled
the penultimate release in its Old
Particular "Consortium of Cards" series.
This time we are being dealt an Old
Particular The Crackerjack Port Dundas
28 Year Old single grain whisky which is
adorned by the Jack of Hearts.
The Crackerjack is the third of four
planned bottlings in the specialist
Single Cask series this year, like the
prevoius releases in the series it has
been bottled at 50% ABV.
The Crackerjack Port Dundas 28 Year Old
joins the earlier releases in the
Consortium of Cards series; a Laphroaig
18 Years Old named “Queen of the
Hebrides” and a Ben Nevis 20 Years Old,
entitled “King of the Hills”.
Cara Laing, third generation in the
family firm, comments: "As a
self-confessed sweet tooth, this antique
Port Dundas spirit is truly a dream
dram. Its sherbety nose hints at the
vanilla toffee and rich molasses palate,
and runs to an indulgent finish packed
with cappuccino, crushed nuts and maple
syrup. The Port Dundas Distillery, in
our home town of Glasgow, closed almost
10 years ago, so it’s a real privilege
and pleasure for us to release this
finite, charming whisky".
As well as this single grain whisky from
the now closed Port Dundas distillery,
Douglas Laing have also revealed a mouth
watering line up of Old Particular
bottlings in their latest outturn
line-up of Old Particular bottlings,
including the following, amongst others:
- Strathclyde 11 Year Old Single
Grain, finished in a Sherry butt,
bottled at 55.5% ABV and shows rich
molasses, mouth-coating coffee and a
caramelised nutty character.
- Auchentoshan 18 Years Old cask,
which displays an "American Cream
Soda" character, with a yield of
just 251 bottles.
- Glen Keith 21 Year Old,
distilled in 1995 and bottled at 21
Year Old, is said to offer a taste
of "Grandma’s lemon meringue pie".
- Allt-a-Bhainne 16 Years Old,
Sherry-matured, "bursting with
macerated fruit, sweet citrus and
long spices".
- Bruichladdich 12 Year Old,
showing a coffee character with
lemon peel and biscuit.
As always Old Particular is bottle
without colouring or chill-filtration,
and at a decent alcohol strength, in
order to deliver an experience akin to
sampling straight from the cask in a
distillery warehouse.
All these Old Particular bottlings,
including "The Crackerjack" Port Dundas
28 Year Old, will be available from
specialist online whisky retailers such
