Douglas Laing
reveal second release in
the Old Particular Consortium of Cards Series, Old
Particular King of the Hills Ben Nevis
20 Years Old.
Douglas
Laing have just revealed the second
bottling in their
Consortium of Cards Series
which they launched earlier this year.
Following on from the "Queen of the
Hebrides" release in February, they have
announced the launch of Old Particular
"King of the Hills" which is very
appropriately a single cask Ben Nevis 20
Year Old which they describe as having a
"Cereal sweetness on the nose with a
fruity and baked bread style palate,
with a long finish of charred oak,
vanilla and warm scones".
The Consortium of Cards King of the
Hills Ben Nevis 20 Year Old was matured
in a single refill butt and bottled at
50% ABV, naturally coloured and non
chill-filtered. A limited release of 626
bottles are available, with each bottle
label adorned
with a "King of the Hills" King of
Diamonds illustration.
The King of the Hills is the "high card"
amongst a small selection of Old
Particular bottlings from Douglas Laing
this quarter. Douglas Laing tell me that
they have also released a couple of
richly spiced Sherry bombs, including an
Old Particular Braeval 15 Year Old and a
Glenrothes 12 Year Old, fully matured in
a single Sherry butt. Also from Speyside
this quarter is a Mortlach 12 Year Old,
whilst an Auchentoshan 16 Year Old,
which they describe as having "a warming
nutty sweetness", is a rare Lowland
release from Douglas Laing. Completing
this quarters outturn is a Glen Keith 21 Year Old,
which DL say displays great depth and mouth-feel with
a "lemon meringue pie, vanilla ice cream
and flambéed orange" character.
You will find
the Old Particular bottlings, including the "King
of the Hills" special limited edition available from specialist online whisky shops such as
