Rampur Double
Cask Indian single malt whisky was
matured for two-thirds of its life in
American Bourbon Barrels and a third in
European Oak Sherry Casks.
 Rampur Indian Single Malt Whisky is
distilled, matured and bottled at the
Indian drinks company Radico Khaitan's
huge Rampur distillery at the foothills
of the Himalayas in Uttar Pradesh. The
distillery was established back in 1943
and produces a variety of spirits such
as rum, vodka, and brandy and has been
distilling whisky for over 25 years but
it is only in recent years that it has
become a serious player on the world
stage as far as single malt whisky goes.
Radico Khaitan launched its first single
malt whisky here in the UK,
Rampur
Select, back in 2016 this was
followed by a Rampur PX Sherry Cask and
now we have the latest offering from
them which was launched at The Whisky
Show London last weekend, the Rampur
Double Cask.
Rampur Double Cask Single Malt is a hand
crafted single malt whisky which has
been matured in hand-selected American
Bourbon barrels as well as European Oak
Sherry casks chosen by Master Distiller,
Anup Barik, who brings his decades of
experience and expertise to the creation
of this Double Cask Single Malt.
Distilled in traditional copper pot
stills, I am told that the Rampur Double
Cask Single Malt was matured for
two-thirds of its life in American
Bourbon Barrels and a third in European
Oak Sherry Casks although they have not
revealed exactly how many years that
was despite its bold pricing but to be
fair many of the offerings from Rampur's
Indian single malt whisky competitors
such as Paul John and Amrut are maybe
even more boldly priced these days but
these Indian whisky makers have now
firmly established themselves a decent
reputation for producing decent
whiskies. Given the polar opposite of
climate conditions at the foothills of
the Himalayas throughout the year with
the flavour of the famous Indian Summer
giving Rampur an added dimension and
depth I would think it will taste
anything but young even though it may
well be young.
Rampur Double Cask Single Malt is
non-chill-filtered and bottled at 45%
and has a price tag of £60 available
from specialist online whisky retailers

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A honey infused fruity nose with
peaches, raisins, a little malty
sweetness and some distant oak all with
a gentle floral edge.
Taste:
A fruit cocktail leads the charge with
grapefruit, peaches, raisins and some
ripe plum, some malt and gristy sugars
sweeten things up just a touch but are
pushed back by some late sulphur notes.
Finish:
Medium length, honey and dried fruit
which quickly bitters out leaving some
slightly drying oak spice and some
lingering slightly bitter sulphurous
notes.
Comment:
I do get the feeling this is quite
young, 6 or 7 years perhaps, maybe more
time in the cask would help it or
perhaps a better choice of cask, it
could certainly benefit from a bit more
sweetness and less sulphur.
