Rare Find
unveils The Long Game Collection of aged
Scotch whiskies.

Independent bottler Rare Find is
launching The Long Game, a collection of
single cask Scotch whiskies aged between
34 and 38 years, alongside an exclusive
Highland Park 1989 vintage reserved for
members of the Rare Find Vault.
The Edinburgh-based independent bottler
has selected three highly aged single
malts for The Long Game: a 36 Year Old
Macallan distilled in 1990, a 38 Year
Old Tormore distilled in 1988 and a 34
Year Old Deanston distilled in 1991.
Together, they showcase the influence of
cask maturation over several decades,
highlighting how the interaction between
spirit and oak shapes each whisky's
individual character.
With just 288 bottles available across
the three releases, the collection
offers a rare opportunity to experience
single malt Scotch whiskies that have
spent more than three decades maturing
in cask.
The Long Game: Three Exceptional Single
Cask Whiskies
Each whisky in the Rare Find collection
has followed its own maturation journey,
with the choice of cask playing a
defining role in the character of the
final spirit.
The Macallan 36 Year Old, distilled in
1990, was matured in a refill sherry
butt and is the most limited release in
the collection, with just 18 bottles
available.
The Tormore 38 Year Old, distilled in
1988, is the oldest whisky in the
collection. Finished in a first-fill
Oloroso sherry barrique, it has an
outturn of 198 bottles.
Completing the trio is the Deanston 34
Year Old, distilled in 1991 and matured
throughout its life in a second-fill
Pedro Ximénez (PX) butt. Just 72 bottles
will be released.
Although united by their extended
maturation, each single malt reflects a
different distillery character and cask
history. The collection highlights Rare
Find's emphasis on selecting whiskies
for the quality of the spirit and the
character developed during maturation,
rather than relying on age alone.
With stocks of Scotch whisky aged beyond
30 years becoming increasingly scarce,
The Long Game brings together three
distinctive single cask releases that
offer a glimpse into the rewards of
patient maturation.
Rare Find Vault Exclusive: Highland Park
1989 Vintage
Alongside The Long Game, Rare Find is
releasing a Highland Park 1989 Vintage,
available exclusively to members of the
Rare Find Vault.
Finished in a refill Port octave, this
limited Orkney single malt has an
outturn of just 67 bottles. Its
restricted availability underlines the
exclusive nature of the Rare Find Vault,
which provides members with access to
selected rare and limited-edition
whiskies that may not be offered to the
wider market.
Whisky enthusiasts interested in joining
the membership programme can find
further details on the Rare Find Vault
website.
Rare Find on the Art of Long-Term Whisky
Maturation
Commenting on the collection, James
Zorab of Rare Find said: "Whiskies of this age demand the right
cask and the right decisions over
decades of maturation. The Macallan,
Tormore and Deanston each tell a very
different story, from the long influence
of refill sherry oak to the contrasting
character of 1st fill Oloroso and 2nd
fill PX.
"What connects them is the quality of the
whisky after more than three decades in
cask. These are not releases where age
alone does the talking. Each has earned
its place in this marque collection, and
the opportunity to bottle whiskies of
this calibre is becoming increasingly
rare."
Release Dates and Availability
The Highland Park 1989 Vintage will be
available to pre-order exclusively to
Rare Find Vault members from 30 October
2026.
The Rare Find The Long Game Collection
will be available from 6 November 2026 from specialist online whisky
shops such as

Macallan 1990 36-year-old Review
|
Fully matured in a refill sherry butt,
54.1% ABV, 18 bottles, RRP £2,500
Producer's
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Luxuriously
honeyed, with honeycomb, Manuka honey
and beeswax creating a rich, waxy
sweetness from the outset. Mirabelle
plums and peach Melba bring beautifully
ripe stone fruit, while milk chocolate
adds a soft, indulgent depth. White
pepper provides a gentle lift, with the
unmistakable earthy character of a dusty
dunnage floor adding a sense of place
and maturity.
Taste: Decadently
syrupy and wonderfully expressive, with
ripe stone fruits flowing into richer
tropical fruit flavours. Golden tobacco
leaf brings depth and a gentle dryness
beneath the sweetness, while a sprinkle
of cinnamon adds warmth. Polished oak
and steeped tea gradually emerge, giving
the whisky structure and balance.
Finish: Sustained
and gloriously sweet, with ripe tropical
fruits and thick, luscious syrup
lingering across the palate. The oak and
tea gently recede, leaving the fruit and
honeyed richness to take centre stage. A
beautifully indulgent finish to an
exceptionally elegant dram.

Tormore 1988 38-year-old Review
|
Finished in a 1st fill Oloroso sherry
barrique, 56.4% ABV, 198 bottles, RRP
£595.00
Producer's
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Rich
and beautifully composed, with golden
syrup, rich toffee and warm custard
alongside crisp apple peel. Beneath the
sweetness lies a gentle earthiness, with
soft marshmallow adding a confectionery
lift.
Taste: Bright,
polished oak brings structure to crème
caramel, alfalfa honey and nostalgic
wine gums. A layer of dry, dusty spice
develops with time, adding complexity
and balance to the whisky's natural
sweetness.
Finish: Elegant
and lingering. Grassy fruits and honeyed
notes fade into a delicate impression of
fine mead.

Deanston 1991 34-year-old Review
|
Fully matured in a 2nd fill Pedro
Ximénez sherry butt, 48.8% ABV, 72
bottles, RRP £325.00
Producer's
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Deeply
mature and wonderfully evocative,
opening with the rich, polished
character of lacquered mahogany
panelling. Stewed plums and Christmas
pudding bring layers of dark fruit and
spice, while roasted almonds add a
subtle nuttiness. Berry compote sits
beneath it all, with just a touch of
mentholated oak bringing freshness.
Taste: Restrained
yet profound, showing the quiet
complexity that comes with beautifully
integrated old sherry influence. Fruit
cake and deep stewed fruits lead into
polished wood, dried tobacco leaves and
old, cracked leather. Raspberry liqueur
adds a concentrated flash of red fruit,
while dry cinnamon spice provides warmth
and structure.
Finish: Refined
and wonderfully composed, with mature
oak and deep stewed fruits gradually
giving way to the soft, malty sweetness
of malt loaf.

Highland Park 1989 Vintage Review
|
Finished in a refill port octave, 51.9%
ABV, 67 bottles, RRP £695.00
Producer's
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Deeply
aromatic and beautifully mature, with
polished oak and the gentle waxiness of
antique furniture setting the tone.
Golden honey, pollen and tinned apricots
bring a rich, mellow sweetness, while
fleeting wisps of ethereal peat smoke
drift through the background.
Taste: Wonderfully
oily, coating the palate with layers of
candied fruit and resinous sweetness.
Honey and baked tarte Tatin bring
richness, while ginger and cinnamon add
warmth and lift. As the whisky develops,
notes of steeped tea emerge alongside
increasingly polished, lacquered oak.
Finish: Long,
with honey and polished oak slowly
giving way to gentle peppery spice. A
subtle touch of mint brings freshness at
the very end.
