has unveiled their latest
limited-edition release under their Rock
Island blended malt whisky brand: Rock
Island 16 Year Old Sherry Edition.

Laing & Co., the Glasgow based
independent, family-owned Scotch whisky
distillers, blenders, and bottlers has
unveiled their latest limited-edition
release under their Rock Island blended
malt whisky brand: Rock Island 16 Year
Old Sherry Edition.
Building on the success of the 14 Year
Old Sherry Edition launched in 2023,
this new expression is said to take the
Island Malt profile to deeper levels of
complexity. Matured for an additional
two years in Sherry casks, the 16 Year
Old is said to offer a richer, more
layered flavour experience.
Crafted from a blend of Single Malts
sourced from Scotland’s whisky-producing
islands—Orkney, Arran, Jura, and
Islay—each single malt whisky in the
blend has been aged for 16 years,
primarily in hand-selected Sherry casks.
These casks enhance Rock Island’s
signature character of sweet peat and
coastal influence with new notes of
dried fruits, walnut, and vanilla, now
joined by hints of honeycomb and toasted
almonds. The result they tell me is a
whisky that beautifully demonstrates the
impact of extended maturation.
Bottled at 46.8% ABV, matching the
strength of its 14 Year Old predecessor,
this release offers enthusiasts the
chance to explore the evolution of
flavour across two Sherry-led
expressions. Like all Douglas Laing
whiskies, it is non-chill filtered and
free from artificial colouring,
reflecting the brand’s commitment to
whisky in its most natural form.
Presented in a luxurious foiled carton
with an updated label design, the Rock
Island 16 Year Old Sherry Edition
reintroduces Rock Island with a bold,
modern edge—while remaining firmly
anchored in its maritime roots.
