 Rock Oyster Cask Strength Limited
Edition 2 is the second and concluding
edition of a two part series of cask
strength Island region blended malts
from Douglas Laing & Co. Edition 2 has
taken a while in coming as the first
edition was released over two years ago
but hopefully it is a case of good
things are worth waiting on.
Douglas Laing tell me that it is once
again a blend of Island region single
malts, including those distilled on the
islands of Islay, Arran, Jura and
Orkney. Matured in American oak and
bottled at 56.1% ABV and like Douglas Laing's other popular Remarkable Regional Malts, Big Peat (Islay), Scallywag (Speyside) and Timorous Beastie (Highland), both Rock Oyster standard and cask strength bottlings are non chill-filtered and have no added colouring.
The new Cask Strength release is said to
deliver "flambéed orange peel, rich
earthiness, puffs of drifting peat smoke
and salty tang” on the palate and, in
classic Douglas Laing style, the
maritime Malt is assuredly offered
without colouring or chill-filtration,
reportedly ensuring that the Scotch
Whisky is truly “as natural as it gets".
Says

limited release. It’s true what they say
– calm seas never made skilled sailors –

Rock Oyster Cask Strength Limited Edition
is a limited release of 8,400 and will be
