Introducing Scapa Skiren, a new 100% First Fill American Oak matured single malt

Scapa have today announced the launch of Scapa Skiren a new 100% First Fill American oak matured No Age Statement single malt.

Scapa tell me that the exclusive maturation in First Fill American Oak casks gives Scapa Skiren a smooth creamy sweetness with a hint of tropical, citrus fruit and coastal heather, uncommon for an Island Single Malt but distinctly Scapa at its core.

The Scapa distillery which was established on the Orkney Islands back in 1815 and has seen some mothballed periods over its history and single malt whisky drinkers haven't seen that many expressions from the distillery over the years. There was the Scapa 12 year old which was replaced by the short lived 14 year year old which was then replaced by the current 16 year old which most of you will be familiar with, so it is good to see another expression from the Orkney distillery.

The Scapa distillery which opened to visitors for the first time in April this year still employs traditional, manually operated production methods and uses the last remaining working Lomond still in Scotland which produces a rich, honeyed, fruity style of single malt whisky.

Scapa Master Distiller, Brian MacAulay says "It has been a real pleasure to bring the dynamic and unexpected contrasts of Orkney to life in Scapa Skiren. It is a product of our island; forged by the elements and the expertise of our dedicated team who use traditional methods and skills honed over several generations to create our distinctive Island malt with its unique smooth honeyed taste."

Scapa Skiren is bottled at 40% ABV will be released in September 2015 in the UK and France and will have a RRP of £38. It will be available from selected specialist whisky shops such as The Whisky Exchange
