Shieldaig Speyside Single Malt

7th September 2015

Ian Macleod to launch Shieldaig Speyside No Age Statement in travel retail.

It appears that a No Age Statement un-named distillery expression of Shieldaig Speyside Single Malt will soon be available to us all, that is if you have a passport as Ian Macleod Distillers is launching the new Travel Retail Exclusive bottling next month at the esteemed Cannes Tax Free World Association (TFWA). Those of you who shop at Makro may know that there is already a No Age Statement un-named distillery expression of Shieldaig Speyside Single Malt currently available here in the UK priced at at £17.87 but I am unsure if this is the same whisky which will be launched in travel retail.

Shieldaig Speyside Single Malt is not a new whisky brand but it is certainly rarely seen, at least here in the Scotland. I did come across it in the USA a few years ago in the form of Shieldaig Speyside 10, 12 and 18 year old expressions which were great value Speyside whiskies, I certainly had no complaints about the $40 Shieldaig Speyside 18 year old.

The Shieldaig brand belongs to Ian Macleod Distillers, one of Scotland’s leading independent family-owned distillers, they also offer a Shieldaig Single Cask Collection were the distillery which produced the whisky in the bottle is named but I believe that is produced for the German market.

The new travel retail exclusive Shieldaig Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky will be available in both a 50cl and litre size bottle and presented in a specially designed gift tube, I don't know what the price tag of the new whisky will be at the moment but hopefully it falls inline with the pricing of the Shieldaig Speyside NAS expression currently available from Makro for £17.87 but given the way recent whisky pricing has gone for No Age Statement whisky my hopes may be well and truly dashed.

Andy Lane, Travel Retail Director for Ian Macleod Distillers, said: "We are delighted with this new Shieldaig bottling, featuring bright and fresh packaging, it’s sure to attract the attention of consumers."

Shieldaig, which translates to ‘Loch of the Herring’ in Old Norse is bottled at 40% ABV.

Taking place between 19- 23 October, the TFWA is widely regarded as the world’s biggest duty free and travel retail association providing the industry with high-quality exhibitions, acclaimed conferences and workshops, and in-depth market research.

Shieldaig Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky can be found at stand number L7 Red Village at TFWA Cannes and will be available from April 2016.
