The SMWS Winter Series - Four Limited-Edition Whiskies

20th October 2025
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has introduced its Winter Series – a collection of four exclusive single malt whiskies inspired by the defining moments of the colder months.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) has introduced its Winter Series – a collection of four exclusive single malt whiskies inspired by the defining moments of the colder months, from October through to January.

Each of the four bottling's is themed around a seasonal celebration: the playful spirit of Halloween, the cosy warmth of Christmas, the sparkle of Hogmanay, and the enduring tradition of Burns Night. The bottles feature bespoke labels, each marked with one of the letters ‘S’, ‘M’, ‘W’, or ‘S’, and adorned with original artwork capturing the essence of these festivities.

The complete Winter Series (£325) will be available via the Society’s website from 17 October, with individual bottles released monthly throughout the winter. The first release, Spirit of Halloween, is now available from
www.smws.com.

Each whisky in the collection is strictly limited, with fewer than 300 bottles of each expression available. The four releases include:

  • The SMWS Spirit of Halloween Cask No. 29.300 (Laphroaig) – £89
Bold & Peaty, aged 11 years in a second-fill American oak PX hogshead. Smoky and slightly medicinal, with notes of pastrami, smoked cheese, and eucalyptus lozenges.

  • The SMWS Mistletoe and Whisky Cask No. 1.296 (Glenfarclas) – £98
Ripe Fruits & Honey profile, aged 13 years in second-fill Spanish oak. Rich aromas of cigars and martinis complement sweeter tones of fruit cake and a bourbon Manhattan.

  • The SMWS We’ll Take a Cup of Kindness Yet Cask No. 59.85 (Teaninich) – £73.50
Toasted Oak & Vanilla character, aged 13 years in a first-fill bourbon hogshead. Opens with notes of lino cuts and putty before evolving into sugared almonds, cinnamon toast, and jammy dodgers, finishing with a gentle spice.

  • The SMWS Sing Thy Name! Cask No. 39.318 (Linkwood) – £73.50
Toasted Oak & Vanilla, aged 13 years in a first-fill bourbon barrel. Bright and lively with flavours of lemon curd, vanilla custard, nutmeg, and cardamom, balanced by a finish of bitter orange marmalade and sandalwood.

Euan Campbell, Head of Whisky Creation at SMWS, said: "Winter is when whisky truly comes to life, and our Winter Series features specially selected bottles that each capture those special occasions that bring people together to enjoy a dram. We hope each whisky will take you on a flavour adventure through the colder months."

To celebrate the launch, SMWS is hosting a range of Halloween-themed events on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 October. Highlights include a spooky five-dram blind tasting at the Bath Street venue in Glasgow, a night of poetry and whisky with Robin Laing at The Vaults in Edinburgh, and a screening of The Shining paired with a three-dram tasting and cinema snacks at The Dominion in Edinburgh. Guests can also enjoy a haunted tasting experience and storytelling supper at the Queen Street Members’ Room, or a "Treat & Sweet" event at Bath Street featuring three drams matched with a trio of desserts.
