has achieved the prestigious title of
'Best in Show' in the whisky category at
the renowned San Francisco World Spirits
Competition (SFWSC) 2023, solidifying
its status as one of the world's finest
whiskies.
The SFWSC stands as a highly esteemed
international competition, bringing
together industry experts to evaluate
spirits from the most distinguished
producers across the globe.
Earning the distinction of 'Best in
Show' is the highest honour bestowed upon
a single whisky, chosen among thousands
of entries after securing victory in its
category, for which Tomatin 36 Year
Old was named 'Best Single Malt Scotch.'
Esteemed whisky journalist and SFWSC
judge, Joseph V Micallef, commended the
distillery for its unwavering commitment
to craftsmanship and exceptional
expertise in cask maturation, describing
the whisky as "undoubtedly one of the
world's greatest Scotch whiskies."
This remarkable achievement marks the
second time the 36 Year Old expression
has received this accolade, previously
recognized in 2017.
Introduced in 2015, with an annual
global release of 1,200 bottles,
Tomatin 36 Year Old whisky exemplifies
unparalleled complexity. It undergoes
maturation in a combination of
ex-Bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks,
resulting in a smooth and velvety dram
that unveils a captivating array of
aromas, including baked fruits, leather
balsam, toffee, walnut, and crystallized
ginger.
Bottled at a cask strength of 45.1% ABV,
it retains its natural colour and is
non-chill filtered. Priced at £1,200,
each bottle is beautifully presented in
a premium wooden box and accompanied by
a numbered certificate, providing a
unique experience for every custodian.
Tomatin's reputation continues to soar
within the industry and among whisky
enthusiasts globally. In 2022, the
distillery earned the titles of 'Scotch
Whisky Producer of the Year' and
'Outstanding Spirits Producer of the
Year' at the International Wine & Spirit
Competition. Additionally, Tomatin
recently garnered 10 accolades at the
preliminary judging of the SFWSC, with
the 36 Year Old receiving a Double Gold
award as well.
