White Peak Distillery introduces the third whisky in its Provenance Core Range – Wire Works Port Cask.

White Peak Wire Works Port Cask Joins Provenance Core Range

Almost eight years after laying down its first casks, White Peak Distillery continues to shape the landscape of English single malt whisky. Guided by a vision rooted in provenance, heritage, and a true sense of place, the distillery now unveils Wire Works Port Cask – the latest addition to the Wire Works Provenance Core Range.

A Whisky of Depth and Dedication

From the distillery’s inception, Port casks have been a prized component of the Wire Works story. Past releases such as Double Oak Port, Full Port, and the Distillery-exclusive hand-fill, all matured in Tawny Port casks, laid the groundwork for this new expression. Earlier this year, White Peak ventured further with Port Wine LBV, finished in Late Bottled Vintage Port barriques. Each of these releases contributed to a growing narrative of flavour exploration that culminates in the new Wire Works Port Cask.

Joining Caduro and Bourbon Barrel in the Provenance Core Range, this latest whisky returns to Tawny Port maturation, which they tell me reveals layers of dried fruit, red berry jam, marzipan, and caramel sweetness that perfectly complement White Peak’s lightly peated house style.

Crafted from a vatting of fresh Tawny Port barriques sourced from Dias Cooperage and first-fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels, Wire Works Port Cask balances the depth of Port influence with the vibrant character of the distillery’s spirit. The result is both recognisably Wire Works and boldly individual – a rich, fruit-forward whisky that reflects the evolution of the distillery’s Port journey.

A Core Range Rooted in Provenance

The Wire Works Provenance Core Range captures White Peak’s philosophy: a flavour-before-cask approach and a deep respect for Derbyshire’s industrial and cultural heritage. Every stage of production takes place on-site at the Wire Works, from mashing and fermentation to distillation, maturation, and bottling – ensuring complete provenance and traceability.

"Almost a decade since we started, it feels like a coming of age to be able to add a 3rd release to our Wire Works Provenance Core Range, which will form the foundation for the future of the Distillery alongside Caduro and Bourbon Barrel. Whisky requires long-term attention to detail, and an acceptance that nothing can be rushed, and our new Port Cask embodies this considered approach, together with our other two core products." — Max Vaughan, Founder

The Wire Works Provenance Core Range:

  • Wire Works Caduro (launched 2023): First-fill bourbon barrels / ex-red wine STR barriques (IWSC Gold 2023, Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition Gold 2025)

  • Wire Works Bourbon Barrel (launched 2024): First-fill bourbon barrels (IWSC Gold 2024)

  • Wire Works Port Cask (2025): First-fill bourbon barrels & fresh Tawny Port barriques

Together, these expressions form a collection of lightly peated, flavour-driven English single malts that embody the spirit of White Peak’s UNESCO World Heritage home on the banks of the River Derwent.

Each whisky is crafted with meticulous care, beginning with a seven-day fermentation using a bespoke yeast blend that includes spent brewers’ yeast from local partner Thornbridge Brewery. Slow distillation in traditional copper pot stills – designed in-house and hand-built in Scotland – ensures maximum depth and character. Maturation takes place in select premium oak casks from family-owned distilleries and cooperages, with careful attention to fill strength and volume to achieve a final spirit of exceptional richness, balance, and individuality.

Bottled at 50.2% ABV, non-chill filtered, and presented with its natural colour, Wire Works Port Cask which has a RRP of £65 will be available from tomorrow, Friday 17th October alongside the other whiskies in the Wire Works Provenance Core Range — Caduro (RRP: £60) and Bourbon Barrel (RRP: £65)
