25th January 2023 |
Its Burns
Night and it is also Wolfburn
Distillery's 10th Anniversary which they
are marking with the release of the
first single cask bottling in their new
Anniversary Series, Wolfburn Cask No.
2013#691.
As
Wolfburn Distillery marks its 10th
anniversary today 25th January, yes
Burns Night, Wolfburn went into
production 10 years ago today, they have
unveiled the first single cask bottling
in a new Anniversary Series, Wolfburn
Cask No. 2013#691
Wolfburn Cask No. 2013#691 was laid down
in October 2013 in a single ex-Oloroso
sherry butt, No. 2013#691 which has just
been bottled now in 2023, the sherry
butt produced 680 bottles which have
been bottled non chill-filtered,
naturally coloured at 52.3% ABV. The
ex-Oloroso sherry butt had previously
been used for finishing but never for
full maturation so there would have been
still plenty of sherry influence in the
butt on the Wolfburn spirit.
This one will obviously be seen as very
collectable but it is also within reach
of whisky drinkers if you grab a bottle
before it hits the secondary market, it
has a price tag of £89.99
This is just the first instalment in a
new collectors’ edition: the Anniversary
Series. Each bottling will be released
annually on Burns Night, with this 2023
bottling being the first and no doubt
the most desirable to collectors. Each
edition will be a single cask.
You will find it available direct from
Wolburn's website and you will also find
Wolfburn's current whisky range available from
specialist online whisky shops such as

Wolfburn Marks 10th Anniversary Series Review
|
Distilled October 2013 and matured in a
single ex-Oloroso sherry butt, No.
2013#691. Bottled non chill-filtered,
naturally coloured at 52.3% ABV
Producer's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
There’s heat, as expected with a whisky
of this strength, but it’s soft with no
burn. Beautiful sweet tones shine
through with the promise of a very rich
dram indeed.
Taste:
Only sherry-matured whiskies lend
themselves to a creaminess like this.
The sweetness and depth of flavour is an
absolutely joy. Autumn fruits mingle
with golden syrup and treacle, while
soft floral notes overlay the whole.
Finish:
The dram gets sweeter over time and
unsurprisingly it’s the Oloroso tones
that linger to the very end. A truly
excellent dram, and a lovely testament
to a decade of hard work by Wolfburn’s
master distillers.
