Review of X
by Glenmorangie which has been made for
mixing but as it turns out it is also
good on its own.
 With
pubs and bars being closed during
lockdown there is no doubt that the
popularity of At-Home Whisky Cocktails
has soared during these strange times,
and with this the realisation by amateur
At-Home Whisky Cocktail makers that the
quality of the whisky cocktail is very
much influenced by the quality of the
whisky used in the cocktail and a cheap
blended Scotch doesn't always produce a
great cocktail.
So those amongst you who may perhaps
dabble in making a long refreshing
whisky cocktail during the warmer summer
months as an alternative to just a
straight dram of single malt will be
intrigued to hear that the creative
folks at Glenmorangie has released 'X by
Glenmorangie', a new no age statement
single malt which they have specially
made for mixing.
X by Glenmorangie has been created using
a combination of whisky aged in bourbon
casks, and some finished in new char oak
casks, it was crafted in collaboration
with a range of top global bartenders
and its richer taste is said to be
perfect for tall, simple serves, which
promise to refresh the way single malt
whisky is enjoyed.
Described as luscious whisky with an
extravaganza of flavours, from pear,
vanilla and honeysuckle to orange
sherbet and chocolate fudge, its sweet
and rich taste is said to both
complement and cuts through all manner
of mixers, for delicious drinks.
Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s Director

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Some Scottish vanilla tablet and honey,
a sweet citrus mix of orange and lemon
which is joined by a little fresh apple
and some slightly more prominent pear. A
wee touch of sweet coconut is lurking in
the background.
Taste:
The vanilla, honey and fruit from the
nose arrive with a delicious gentle
candied sweetness, the coconut hinted at
on the nose arrives alongside it in the
form of coconut iced sweets and there is
a lovely gentle spiced oak edge to it
all.
Finish:
Medium to long finish, gentle apple and
pear, a little barley sugar sweetness
which is bittered out by some gentle
slightly drying oak spice, the apple and
pear fades to leave some lingering
honey.
Comment:
This may have the X factor for mixing
but it also has the G factor for
drinking neat, unmistakably
Glenmorangie, and quite a good one at
that. I know it has been created for
mixing which going by the cocktail I
tasted below it does so very well, but
it could also rival any young single
malt for quality and most importantly
taste pleasure.
It really is not surprising Glenmorangie
has created this as the At-Home Whisky
Cocktail market is huge these days. If
you are playing safe in these strange
times and you are staying home this
summer I can happily recommend this to
drink neat as a summer dram or equally
if you want to get creative and make
yourself, friends or family a long
refreshing cocktail to sip on.

Glenmorangie X Grapefruit Cocktail

Here is the ingredients and method for
the Glenmorangie X Grapefruit cocktail, I had it in a tall
highball glass with crushed ice this afternoon
and I have to say it really was deliciously refreshing.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Ingredients:
- 50ml X by Glenmorangie
- 55ml 100% Grapefruit Juice
- 12.5ml Maple Syrup
- 25ml Club Soda or Sparkling
Water
Method:
- Fill highball glass with crushed
ice. Add X by Glenmorangie,
grapefruit juice and maple syrup.
Stir top with club soda or sparkling
water and garnish with a grapefruit
slice.
 As I said the Glenmorangie X
Grapefruit was delicious and I can
highly recommend it as a long refreshing
drink on a warm summers day.
